• 12:13pm 31Jan2004 - Called by Travis Star - Embassy Vacation Resort - Lake Tahoe - Offering me some kind of free vacation. He called with no caller ID on his call, which is a violation of the FTC Telemarketing Sales Rule. I decided to go straight to the junk busters script....
• 1. Are you calling to sell me something? yes
• 2. Gave his full name as Travis Star. He didn't want to give this info, I had to ask 3 times.
• 3. What is your organizations phone number: don't know the phone number.
• 4. Embassy Vacation Resort

Then he said "Bye!" and hung up.... This is a violation of the new telemarketing sales rule, they can't just hang up on you when you are requesting this information. This can be harassment. I'd even told him I might sign up for his vacation, but first I had to get answers to the things on my script. Also it is a violation of the law for them to interfere in any way with your making a request to be put on their do not call list, and hanging up and refusing to give their number would certainly prevent you from asking to be on their do not call list.

Also, if this was a third party company doing the calling, both companies would probably be in violation of the rule because of either one of them not operating according to the rule.

• He offered me the direct numbers for the Lake Tahoe Blvd and Ski Run Blvd locations

• I asked who I would talk to at their central office in case I need to escalate the complaint. He transfered me to Guest Assistance.
  • Guest Assistance - Emabassy Suites - handles complaints. Spoke with Angela. This department can only be contacted through the reservations number and then transfered.
    • Manager for Timeshare - Barbie Rinks 1-800-448-2736 - Has some oversight over the Tahoe properties.

Now attempting to call Ms. Younker: She hasn't worked here for 9 months. New General Manager is Jeff Schwartz. He comes in at 8:30-9am in the morning.

Now attempting to call Mr. Miranda: Spoke with Abby (She get 5 stars, she was very nice, helpful and cheerful): Mr. Miranda comes in between 8am and 9am. Sales and Marketing head is Bill Cottrill, not in today, will be in on Monday.... She then asked when I was calling about and I told her about the telemarketing call. She said this location has no timeshares, this is the Stateline location. It was the Embassy Vacation Resort at Ski Run that has the timeshares. Director of sales and marketing might be a guy named Paul. They do the outbound calling.

04 February 2004: Time to try and reach Mr. Jeff Schwartz. Cheryl answers, and says the head of their telemarketing is Marketing Manager - Mr. Shanon Cummings. He will be out of the office until 6 February 2004. For urgent matters, call Angie at ext. 210.

6 April 2004 5:20pm: Call from 480-615-1888 "New Horizons". Offer $189 to stay for 3 days and 2 nights. Total for everyone. Usually $289 per person to stay at the resort. Also get a $50 gift certificate. Vacation can be used any time between now and next April, can call anytime between now and next april.

On the line comes Travis Nighburg, who identifies himself as a "Security verification officer"

He got upset when I started asking for their telephone number.
