heard that Cal gets about 40% of it's oil from fields within the state although... Shell's closing a big refinery in Bakersfield because the oil field it's been relying on is tapping out and no longer economical...
another big source is Alaska... which has also peaked... but most of the tankers tying up in Richmond and Benica are bringing in oil from Alaska... remember the Exxon Valdez?.. the other destination is LA..
there are a lot of inactive pumping rigs you can see from Hwys 5 and 1 if you drive down to LA... these fields are either tapped out or no longer economical work... also some of the oil has a high sulphur content and is more expensive to refine...
it's interesting that one side's promoting a boycott while the other is sending spam offers of free gas if you sign up... never took up any of these offers because it'd probably open some torrent of spam...
I don't know.. sounds a bit like that stuff about "discoveries" of $$Millions in some abandoned account which they'll share if you send them your account info...
