Elders Handbook: Parts of Worship
Subjects > Religion > Seventh-day Adventist > Seventh-Day Adventist Elders Handbook Study Guide
"Our God is a tender, merciful Father. His service should not be looked upon as a heart-saddening, distressing exercise. It should be a pleasure to worship the Lord and to take part in His work." (Steps To Christ, p. 103)

Prayer
The order of the elements of public prayer is important: (It shows reverence for God, and gets us right with God before we ask anything else of God.)
- 1. Address to God - God's name is holy. Speak it at the beginning of prayer, but do not speak it meaninglessly.
- 2. Praise - Adore God's name, thank Him for what He has done.
- 3. Repentance - Ask God's forgiveness for the past.
- 4. Dedication - Ask His strength for the future. Commit yourselves to Him before requesting things of Him
- 5. General intercession - Intercede for God's work, world leaders, and the congregation: young, old, parents, ill, discouraged
- 6. Specific intercession - Special prayer requests, the meeting, the speaker
- 7. Conclusion - In Jesus name, affirming our right to approach God in prayer
