Many of these bugs are posted on a thead at [Pocket Informant 5 Discussion Forum]
These are some bugs, and unexpected operations, I've encountered with Pocket Informant 5 on an HP iPaq hx4705 ..... I've been using it now for almost a week, and I have spent a couple of hours looking around in the forums, so I apologize if these are all repeated somewhere else, just think of them as a new users perspective.
P.S. Generally, despite the following bugs, I like PI. It sure makes the built in Microsoft Apps look vanilla. The most frustrating are the problems dealing with hierachical things, although losing almost all my calendar items after upgrading is painful.
All tasks then appear on the first level.... Where is this information stored so that it doesn't get backed up?
Tedious Workaround: When making hierarchical tasks, give them a first first word so that they'll sort under the item they belong under, for example, making a task called Shopping, give all shopping tasks first word of Shopping. Then whenever you have to restore a backup, it is easier to move them one by one back where they belong. Of course second level tasks should have two words prepended to them, e.g. "Shopping - Staples"
Hint on dragging to create hierachy: Click on task, drag pen to the right, then up or down to where you want the item to go.
According to Akac on the discussion forum:
(I was unable to figure out how to make, within PI, just another regular note like the notes synced from Outlook. Somehow I got a couple of "Business Notes" but I don't know how.)
After upgrade to PI 5,5,0,0142: the notes tab shows an upper area that scrolls all the subdirectories on your device, even directories that didn't normally include notes. Sub folders of "My documents" such as "Business" can have new notes created in them by clicking and holding on the folder, then chosing "New Note" from the popup menu. These notes will be synchronized to the main notes folder in outlook, with a title similar to "Business\First 24 char of first line". Amazingly editing the note in Outlook does not show the "Business\" characters in the note, so there is probably no way to get rid of them.
(Within my notes I have folders like "Clients", and subfolders under there, and things like "Passwords" with subfolders for "Financial" None of these are getting synced over to the palmtop. With my old Clie, and Beyond Contacts, I was able to have my whole hierachy of notes on the Clie without any problems. Yes I know this probably "blaim active sync", or "nice feature request")
(Information about half price upgrade says you must use the web support ticket interface to send a message to tech support including your serial number, then they will send you a reply maybe by the next day with the web links to the download. They blame this process, somehow, on their agreement HP. My first couple of emails about this, I forgot to mention my serial number, since nothing on the support ticket form reminded me about the serial number.)
(Not really sure how to recreate this, think it had something to do with trying to setup recurring tasks.)
Recurring Tasks Hint: You must first establish a start date, or an end date, before you can set a task to recurring. Might be nice if clicking on recurring (grayed out) could cause a start date of today to be automatically assigned.
Here are bugs you might encounter after buying the upgrade:
Easy fix: Need to go and use the hierarchical tasks button on menu bar to re-enable hierarchical tasks after upgrade. Whew.... So the real bug is that upgrading didn't preserve my previous setting to view things in hierarchical view.
