Lars Larsen Show Notes For February 8, 2006
- Affirmative Action Bake Sale
- Mark Frinzinger, with University of Pennsylvania
- Held an "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" which is a protest that draws attention to the inequities inherent in affirmative action.
- Items are priced according to your race and gender. White males would pay the most for items, and black females would pay the least.
- Protest related to the school's admission policies, students were protesting their use of gender and race in giving preferences.
- Lars wishes more schools would do this.
- Sexual harassment in the first grade
- A six year old boy in the first grade at Downey Elementary School in Brockton, Massachusetts was suspended for touching a female classmate. The boy allegedly touched the girl underneath the waistband of her pants. The boy was suspended for three days but hasn't returned afterwards because he feels uncomfortable about returning. His mother is trying to transfer him to another school.

- Lars Larson Radio Show Caller: "What do they want to do, paint a big red T on his head?" Lars: When the mother showed up at school, the suspension was already a done deal.
- Lars Larsen: My bigger concern is that we need to trust our school administrators. We have to trust they make good decisions. But things like this, and the principal in Spokane Washington who banned the game of tag, you've got to believe someone out there believes with these guys, but they are hard to find, and you wonder why are the schools so far out of touch with mainstream America? Who believes that this little boy should be booted out for doing this one time? I can't find anyone out there who will call in and agree with this, but the people running the schools think this is appropriate.
- Another caller: "The Sad Part about this is that a lot of parents are not just allowing kids be kids anymore. This mother will probably be forced into putting her kid on medication. A lot of parents are forcing these kids to be adults too fast. A lot of them don't even take the time to discuss with the children what is innocent, what is play."
- Lars: If a high school boy had done this, boot him out. But 6 years old do so much that is not intended to be offensive.
