Answer: Respiratory problems, especially asthma caused by allergic reactions, are linked to antigens found in cockroach feces, saliva, eggs, and shed cuticles. A study completed by the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service found that cockroach antigens remain in the same concentrations for at least five years and cleaning a room removed only 90% of the allergen. A home test kit is being developed to detect a broad base of antigens. Another study concluded that cockroaches were the most common cause of asthma in inner city children, affirming a need for an effective detection kit for cockroach antigens. Full Story...
