Automatic expression means any form of artistic expression (most commonly writing and drawing) done without conscious effort in order to recieve messages from any intra - or extrapersonal entity other than the conscious everyday mind. Includes automatic writing, automatic drawing and other automatic art.
Techniques include:
- Distraction method - one hand holds drawing equipment, and then tries to get totally distracted from it by various techniques: reading, talking, watching TV. Said to be easy for mediums, and easy for others to learn. Christians would say this is an attempt to open one self to demonic manipulation.
- Emotional expressive method - After arriving in an intense emotional state, the artist then begins the art without thinking or planning.
- Trance techniques
- Flow/Artist?Create's mode of consciousness - an automatic flow of ideas, without much conscious effort. Refered to as "the flow"
- light gnosis method - inspiration method. - intent to receive communication from external entities, or unconscious parts of the mind.
- deep gnosis method - working with drawing or painting while in a deeply altered state of consciousness
