What can be used to get rid of the smell?Answer: Once saw a crack on the main sewer line, an inch and a half below the concrete. As for the smell, it will dissipate. There is a really good odor remover that devours the bacteria called Odor Exit. Problem with water pressure to washing machine: Dip tube cleaning may help. You should also clean the screens. Plumbing is great, you start in one room, and finish in another.'Question: Will the chimney cleaners do as good of a job as a professional inspection? I saw one that seems like it is UL listed.Answer: Chimney cleaning materials get some material off the chimney, but they give a false sense of security. A professional inspection is very important, and a professional cleaning every two years is necessary.Question From Jennifer from Covington Kentucky: Question about store bought kitchen table with natural finish is loosing it's luster. It still has some shine. I wash it down after we eat, and I use a furniture polish.Answer: Dawn or something like that is fine for cleaning. Furniture polish is a problem, it has beeswax which is very soft. If you put something over that, it will be a problem in about two years. Waxs create a bit of a glow, but they don't look like the protective finish. And protective finishes mix with wax like oil and water. Mineral spirits works good to cut wax coating off the surface. OO-Grade steel wool can then be used to buff it down. Then with a swiffer, or tack cloth, to remove the residue. Then do a polyurethane coat in a gloss, or semigloss. Before going to that work, you might also try "Restore Finish". It comes in 8 colors, such as golden oak. It works on everything but a urethane. It adds additional luster and pigment. It's worth to try that before buffing the table down. With this product you don't need to use mineral spirits. This can be done in half an hour. Beck Paint and Hardware in Cincinnati carries it.Question from Don: Needs professional help with a separation between the ceiling and wall on the inside of the house. It is a two story house that is about 6 years old. The gap seems to contract and expand, along the interior wall on the second floor, along the length of the house. It's where the drywall of the wall meets the ceiling. Along the outside wall, things are fine. But the center bearing wall is having the problem where the ceiling meets the bearing wall. The gap can be as much as a quarter of an inch, and in other places it doesn't separate at all. In other places it comes down, and crushes the drywall as much as a quarter of an inch. This time of the year the gap should open.Answer:' You need a structural engineer to look at it. Home builders don't care about it. You can get up there with poly seam seal and it would look as good as new, but in this case, since there might be a structural or architectural issue, you need a structural engineer. The problem coud be Truss Uplift, and no one really understands this. It is changes in temperature and humidity on the framing lumber. Strapping can be used to strap it down to the interior wall. There is probably no strapping holding the truss down at the interior wall. You have to look under the insulation. But if it is a long span, the movement can be extreme. There can be a crown molding that would slip on the wall. Dear Gary I know you a promote champion windows and siding that is one of the reasons I'm writing to you. My neighbor hired Champion for vinyl siding. The first day they were on the job, when they were working in my yard it went smooth. But the second time they had to work in my yard it was a DISASTER. They broke my Thirteen (13)year old azelea bush completely in two and went on to nail it together and stake it thinking I wouldn't notice. """UNBELIEVEABLE"""""" WELL THEY FINISHED IN MY YARD TODAY AND GUESS WHAT I FOUND. ONE OF MY BANANA TREE'S WAS BROKE AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF BASE.
