Advice on Writing the Objective Section Of A Resume

Subjects > Writing > Resumes

One section of resumes that is very important is the intro. Resumes often begin with a "Job Objective", and since it is one of the first sections a reviewer will see, it bears careful attention.
The resume can state the objective of the job seeker, but the real focus is that your skills should satisfy your potential clients. Let a client ask you in an interview what your objective is.

Here are the points the introduction should include:

  1. Tell them what you are really good at
  2. What you've been doing lately (past 3 to 5 years) as a summary. For example, I have been building search engines, extending my know-how in this area, etc.
  3. State your specialties from Main. For example, you are mainly a software engineer but you are also versed in bio engineering!
  4. State why you are an asset for your potential client

The style should be like an executive summary and don't be shy to use the 1st person. For example, I am a fine programmer my prefered language is C by lately for the past 2 years I have discovered C#.

Talk about your projects in terms of importance and resources (time, people, funds, etc).

The impression you should convery is I am OK

What your potential clients want to know is if you know what you are talking about. Don't be pedantic or pretentitious - try to give the impression that you are honest.

90% of the time your potential client will read just the first page of your resume. It has to be clear concise and catchy. If you go to a recruiter, in general they will edit your resume.
